Quarter Final of Sketch Off this Saturday 22nd Feb, 4.30pm
Come on down to The Museum of Comedy if you're around!
Hello! I’ve made it through to the quarter final of Leicester Square Theatre’s Sketch Off! at The Museum of Comedy. My heat is this Saturday 22nd Feb, 4.30pm. You can book tickets here (make sure to select the 4.30pm slot). It is hosted by the brilliant Sam Nicoresti. There are nine other acts, two industry judges and an audience vote.
This is the third year I’ve entered this competition. In 2023 I got through to the semi finals, (tantalisingly close to the final!). I didn’t get further than the quarters in 2024, but have since created a full show from this sketch. I’d love to make the 2025 final. There is stiff competition and it is frequently hard to guess the outcome of each heat. I’ve entered the short sketch version of my robot politician character act AMEXA each year, with various gag (or feature) updates along the way. The sketch and the full show becomes scarily more and more relevant each year. There isn’t much political satire in this competition (nor in comedy in general at the moment) and given the current state of the world, I think satire is more important than ever, so I decided to give it a go again. Let’s just say AMEXA will not give up on world (Sketch Off) domination.
Here’s a short clip from the first heat back in January. It’s clocked up a nice amount of views and likes on TikTok (my second most popular video after the two bots go on a date sketch).
It’s nice to see that AMEXA gets a good response from both live and online audiences, even after performing as her for a few years now. Thanks to the Musk/Trump relationship, more and more people are clocking on to the ‘broligarchy’ and the dubious relationship between big tech and politics. Then you have the rapid and barely regulated development of AI, disinformation, the rise of the right wing around the world and Russia’s penchant for destabilising democracies and interfering in other nation’s elections (*takes breath*). It would be great to get this character to the final (of course for my own professional gain as it gets a nice amount of industry attention), but to also help draw more attention to the fact that our democracies are under threat. It’s why I created this darn robot thing in the first place.
wish I were in town to catch this - break a leg!
